Our Story

The Bed Shop - a Leith institution

This is our story

Our story begins near the foot of Leith Walk, in the east end of Edinburgh.

The Bed Shop opened the doors at it's original premises on Leith Walk in the summer of 1978. They were the first shop in Scotland specialising in beds at a time when big furniture shops were popular, The Bed Shop were certainly trailblazers back then. Move on over 40 years and, despite having to move premises, they're still in Leith and still going strong. Testament to the ability, professionalism and tenacity of this family-owned business.

So what is the secret of their success and longevity?

Keeping it simple, offering quality products at affordable prices and a good service to match.

At The Bed Shop they've always sold brand name products. Their customers demand quality so therefore their floor display contains suppliers such as Sealy, Silentnight, Harrison Spinks, Breasley and Sweet Dreams. Each of these company's are members of the National Bed Federation. This is important because of the criteria set down by the NBF. It guarantees their customers complete peace of mind.

On 31st August 2018 The Bed Shop closed it's doors for the final time at it's premises on Leith Walk. The end of an era yes but on Monday 3rd September, three days later, a new chapter began. New premises had been earmarked on Bonnington Road, a stones throw away from the old premises, and The Bed Shop opened for business. All the same staff, who have a combined total of over 80 years service, and all the same suppliers.

At Bonnington Trade Estate The Bed Shop were made most welcome by their new neighbours. They include The Cloth Shop, Johnstone's Paints, Edinburgh Bathroom Centre and Spectacles Direct. Lots of established businesses and all very happy to welcome another established business into the estate.

We look forward to welcoming you through our doors very soon.
